Last Week of Ballet

We have had a love-hate relationship with ballet class. In theory, we LOVED ballet. We liked to put on the tutus, the slippers, and make our hair beautiful. But as soon as we got to class, we froze. And stared. And sometimes cried.

To be fair, we started ballet right when we moved, and then had a new sister, and then moved again, so there was a lot of crazy changes going on.

However, lately we have really been getting into ballet. The girls are totally loving it, mostly due to their awesome teacher Miss Leslie. Seriously, you can't ask for a better teacher than Miss Leslie.

We ended up putting Eliza in a different class than Esther, so now she is in with the "big girls" rather than in Baby Ballet. And it has made a WORLD of difference. In the "Princess" class (as it is so perfectly called for her), the mommies stay outside the room and watch through the window. Eliza runs in as soon as she gets her slippers on and starts chatting with the other little girls about ballet and about the beautiful "ball gowns" that they dress up in every week. Esther HAS to wear her "beautiful dress" (as she calls it) to Eliza's class and sometimes saunters in and sits next to Miss Leslie.

Sadly, Miss Leslie is no longer going to be teaching ballet, so we need to find a new ballet class to go to. Here are a few pictures of the girls this week.

Esther has this thing about always doing "funny face" in pictures right now.

"Cheese"
They don't get any cuter than this.
Doing "pique." I think that's how it's spelled.
Warm-up time in the circle with Miss Leslie.

After warm-ups and stretching we put on the all-important costumes. The twirly factor is determined right away.

This dress seems to be making the cut. We have had tears over dresses that weren't quite twirly enough.

The princess dresses are bit big for Esther but she likes to put them on just the same.

Daddy and Eden watching through the window. The girls wanted Daddy to come see their final class.
One of Eliza's favorite things at ballet is "dancing in the night." The girls pretend they are toys and when night comes they wake up and dance. Here they are hiding.

Lights off - dancing time! I can't believe my camera took this picture. It was pitch black.

We love ballet!

  2. 1. Dang, Eliza's hair is getting long!
    2. I love their ballet Crocks.
    3. I LOVE the first picture with Eliza posing like a sweet little girl and Esther doing funny face with only ONE of her cheeks. SO funny!
    4. They are stinking cute
    5. The first paragraph of the staring, freezing, and crying is reminding me of someone...oh! That would be my experience in ballet (and Leslie too). The best part was that mom still gave us our My Little Pony prizes after our first performance even though we chickened out (we were supposed to get them if we actually performed). Good times.
